JUPITER, FL – November 3, 2017 – Riding the wave break since the mere age of seven, it is true passion that has lead 14 year-old Jupiter local, Nicholas Turdo, to be the number one junior skimboarder in the world for two years running. Competing in the 12-14 year-old boys age bracket, it was no easy feat to achieve his spot on top, and become a part of the Skim U.S.A. Team in 2016.

In order to earn his title, he has proven his abilities through winning or placing as a finalist in a series of premier skimboarding tournaments across the country each year. These include the Exile Oktoberfest Skimboard Contest in California and the Outer Banks Skim Jam in North Carolina to ultimately qualify him to compete in the Zap Pro/Amateur World Championships of Skimboarding competition held at Dewey Beach in Delaware. Riding against many competitors across the globe from Brazil to Portugal, Nicholas has kept his title as number one for the past two years for his age group, and that is also what attracted his current sponsors Zap Pro and Filibuster.

“My brother got me into the sport when I was younger, and I haven’t stopped since,” says Nicholas. “I have just kept practicing and I am really proud of making the team.”

Living next to Juno Beach, he trains at least four days a week either at the shore break or pulled behind a boat. Most recently, Nicholas came in first place at the Florida Pro-Amateur Contest. His father, Michael Turdo, adds, “We are so proud of what he has accomplished in the last seven years in this sport, and we hope he continues to have fun, work hard, and reach his goal to turn pro by the time he is 16.”
