THE CHOCOLATE SPECTRUM CAFÉ AND ACADEMY RECEIVES $25,000 GRANT FROM THE JIM MORAN FOUNDATION
Jupiter, FL (November 8, 2018)-- The Chocolate Spectrum Café and Academy has received a $25,000 grant from The Jim Moran Foundation to support the Culinary Life Skills Training Program for Adults who have Autism or other developmental issues. This funding demonstrates The Jim Moran Foundation’s continued commitment to The Chocolate Spectrum.

The Culinary Life Skills Training Program for Adults is a six-month program allowing students to learn about chocolate production, baking and beverage preparation, as well as customer service and professional skills. This direct instruction and apprenticeship program can lead to employment with The Chocolate Spectrum.

The Chocolate Spectrum is a groundbreaking enterprise, offering adults and teens with Autism and other developmental disabilities the chance to learn a unique skill and be involved in a lifelong, purposeful experience. The company was founded by Valerie Herskowitz in 2013. Currently, 25 students attend training programs at The Chocolate Spectrum and the retail operation employs several graduates.

“We recognize the positive impact The Chocolate Spectrum is making by providing career exploration and life skills training for young adults with developmental disabilities so they may reach their greatest potential,” said Jan Moran, Chairman and President of The Jim Moran Foundation.

“Too often, young people with Autism and other developmental disabilities ‘graduate to the couch’ once they turn 21 and assistance becomes limited,” said Herskowitz. “We’re giving these young adults the knowledge they need to pursue a profession, and it’s pretty powerful to witness them take such pride in the incredible work they do.”
