The AustinBlu Foundation Will Be Holding The First Land & Sea Fishing Tournament

JUPITER, FL – April 12, 2018 – Fishing enthusiasts For the first time ever, the AustinBlu Foundation will be holding the Land & Sea Fishing Tournament in honor of the legacy of Austin and his love for the sea. The fun-filled event will be held on May 4th and 5th at The River Center in Jupiter.

The Land & Sea Fishing Tournament is a family-friendly fishing tournament encouraging parent/child fishing interactions. Anglers can fish from land or sea, so there is something for everyone. There will also be food trucks, live music, a bounce house, and more for the family to enjoy. The tournament will benefit the AustinBlu Foundation and will raise awareness about the importance of boater safety on the water, and Florida Coast Magazine is proud to be a Mahi sponsor of the event.

Carly Black, Austin's mother, explains the importance of the event, “I believe that honoring him by having the tournament is incredibly amazing for him and his legacy, and by holding an event that our community, who has given us support when we feel like we wanted to fall down, can be a part of is our way of giving back. Blu and I get to carry on Austin’s name with something that he absolutely loved more than anything – fishing.”

This unique tournament will showcase not just one competition, but two! Anglers will have the option to compete in our Release Competition and/or the Harvest Competition. In the Release Competition, anglers will receive points for the number/species of fish caught, photographed, and released. In the Harvest Competition, anglers will compete to catch the heaviest fish out of these 4 categories:

  • Dolphin
  • Kingfish
  • Snapper
  • Wahoo

About AustinBlu Foundation

The AustinBlu Foundation was formed in 2015, in the wake of a tragedy involving two young boaters from Jupiter, Florida, who were lost at sea on July 24th, 2015. Austin Blu Stephanos was one of those boys and the namesake of this foundation.

The boys virtually grew up on the water; boating, fishing, diving or swimming nearly every day. They worked at a tackle shop together and immersed themselves in the salt-life of the ocean. This Foundation is rooted in Austin’s lifelong love of the sea and his desire to share that love and enjoy the beauty and excitement of the ocean at every possible opportunity. Austin's life story is as much a love story as a cautionary tale. The ocean was the love of his life; the lesson of his life is to take every precaution when enjoying the majesty, beauty, and power of our oceans.
