Shark Wake Park Made a Splash at its Opening Weekend

West Palm Beach, FL – June 17, 2019 – A new attraction just made its way to Okeeheelee Park. After many years of hard work and perseverance, Greg Norman Jr. opens Shark Wake Park 561 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Son of hall of fame golfer Greg Norman, Greg Jr.’s passion for extreme water sports pushed him towards the goal of starting his very own cable wakeboarding park. After opening Shark Wake Park 843 in Myrtle Beach, Greg Jr. knew it was time to bring the concept home to South Florida.

The ribbon cutting ceremony kicked off with Eric Call, Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Director, and Greg White, the district commissioner, explaining the project and its success to the individuals who came to enjoy this special day. Call reminisces back to the 70’s when the park was nothing but “shell pits,” as he puts it. Now, after close to 50 years of constant improvement, the park is able to introduce Shark Wake Park to this district. Following Call and White’s excellent introduction, Greg Norman, hall of fame golfer and owner of the Greg Norman Company, and Greg Jr., avid kite and wakeboarder, followed with nothing but uplifting statements. Greg Norman exclaimed, “We are one day short of father’s day, and the best present a father could ever have is to see his son being successful.” Greg Jr. ended the ceremony thanking his dad for helping inspire his dreams, and of course by cutting the ribbon together and getting everyone motivated to start the fun.

With the new wake park now open, tons of eager fans rushed to try out all if had to offer. Soaring through the air and grinding on the rails, each person participated with a smile on their face. Featuring a beginners and advanced course along with the aqua park, Shark Wake Park was by far, a hit. By noon, hundreds of customers lined up to join in on the fun.

After discussing the park’s future with Greg Jr. he said that he hopes to eventually host professional wakeboarding tournaments within the grounds, and the team is already working on soon installing a ropes course and zip line. As Greg Jr. explains the purpose for creating the park he says, “It’s about the community, it’s about building relationships, and it’s about building culture using something people love and are passionate about.” He couldn’t have said it better, because after witnessing the grand opening and start to this park’s future, passion and the love for this sport shined ever so bright.
