Community #Glow2Know Marked by Mayor Proclamation

JUPITER, FL – March 20, 2018 – April 20, 2018 will be proclaimed Social and Emotional Health Awareness Day by Mayor Todd Wodraska of The Town of Jupiter to coincide with Generation Stand UP’s #Glow2Know Dance-A-Thon and community health awareness event 6 pm – 10pm at Harbourside Place Amphitheater in Jupiter, FL.

The event will feature a showcase of presentations on social and emotional health topics by teen leaders from the nonprofit organization Stand UP Foundation intermixed with a glowing night of DJ driven Dancing Thru the Decades for all ages and generations with a 60s/70s/80s Costume Contest. Music will be provided by ARTIK - DJ Blake Henderson.

Information about bullying prevention and empathy skills, media messages and body image, drug and alcohol awareness, depression and anxiety prevention, healing from grief and loss, and leadership skills will be made available. At 8pm Mayor Todd Wodraska will read the Proclamation from The Town of Jupiter declaring April 20 Social and Emotional Health Awareness Day.

“At a time when so many communities are experiencing tragedies from social and emotional ills, it is apparent that we need to come together to share, learn and support each other,” said Ashley Le Grange, director and founder of Stand UP Foundation. “We have a drastic shortage of educational, counseling and support services for our youth, and our goal is to bring awareness around prevention and breaking stigmas related to social and emotional health topics. Our teens invite the community to #StandWithUs for #weRcommunity.”

“Our website (www.standupfoundationfl.org) and social media are a great resource for information, personal stories, networking and uplifting messages,” added Le Grange. “On April 20, around 2:30pm we are asking everyone to stop and take a moment to meditate and reflect on their own social and emotional wellbeing.  We chose this time because it coincides with the time the Parkland school shootings started.”

Stand UP Foundation provides a safe platform for teens to connect and collaborate in order to build social and emotional strength that effects positive change within their communities, among their peers and in their personal lives. Through its innovative

Women Making Waves and Men Moving Mountains leadership, peer mentoring and prevention programs, teens of all backgrounds receive the tools and skills they need to manage the social and emotional health challenges present during adolescence with the goal of building a strong generation of healthy, happy teens and a caring community.

All proceeds from the #Glow2Know Dance-a-Thon will fund the continuation of Stand UP Foundation’s programs. Sponsors include FPL, Akerman LLP, Dr. Miller Dentistry, Hamilton Aesthetics of the Palm Beaches and several others. Sponsorships are still available.
