City of West Palm Beach Community Events for October 2017

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – September 29, 2017 – CLEMATIS BY NIGHT, Free Weekly Concert Series, Every Thursday; 6-9 p.m. FREE

West Palm Beach Waterfront

West Palm’s favorite Thursday night tradition proves why it has been the “hot spot to chill” for more than 20 years. During Clematis by Night, guests will enjoy live music, food and drink specials and the hottest local social scene, creating an unmatched seaside happy hour setting.

  • Thursday, October 5: The Resolvers (Reggae)

"The phrase "breath of fresh air" does not provide the oomph needed to describe just how special the Resolvers are. The Resolvers are like a ganja-tinged hurricane wind from the deep lungs of a giant Rastaman ripping out the end of a scorching-hot brass horn as just the funk the doctor ordered. Their unique sound, which the 11-piece calls "big band reggae," is a marriage between roots reggae and New Orleans-style funk, and its powerful vibes have spread out far beyond this peninsula. The band has uplifted audiences throughout the Southeast, as well as in California and Jamaica. Upon releasing their 3rd EP, Big Band Reggae, it debuted at number five on the Billboard reggae charts, establishing the band's presence in the reggae world at large.

While the positive influence makes its way around the globe, it is certainly most concentrated here in South Florida. The band regularly, along with its ever-growing posse of sun-kissed fans, blows the roof off of local venues. And once a month, the Resolvers "fam" hits the beach for a day of service — picking up litter for hours. Driven by a group heart and a work ethic as powerful as their music, the Resolvers are getting bigger all the time.

  • Thursday, October 12: Mikey’s Hotswing Latin Band (Latin Tropical)

Mikey’s Hotswing Latin Band is an international Latin tropical band that performs cover and original music with a Latin twist. In one evening you may hear Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia, Pop, Ballads and Jazz from this multi-talented group.

  • Thursday, October 19:  Big Al & The Heavyweights (Gumbo, Blues, Zydeco)

Hailing from New Orleans, Big Al & the Heavyweights serve up a musical GUMBO of American Roots Music that features everything from Blues to Zydeco and most of all FUN!

  • Thursday, October 26: CLEMATIS BY FRIGHT

Creep, crawl or float down to Clematis by Fright for a FREE frightfully fantastic time! Thousands of dollars in prizes will be awarded in the annual costume contest in categories for kids, adults, families and pets. Returning this year is the Haunted Hallows where children can safely Trick-or-Treat with free candy bags provided by the City. Lots of spookily spectacular family fun await you at the best place to celebrate Halloween in West Palm Beach!

Also enjoy live music all night long by The Spam Allstars. (Latin/Funk)

DJ Le Spam & Spam Allstars blend improvisational electronic elements and turntables with Latin, funk, hip hop and dub to create what they call an electronic descarga.  It’s not a known genre.  It’s hard to describe.  It attracts many types of people. But as they look out and see people dancing salsa, next to break-dancers, and festival-goers driving for hours to catch a show -- they know something very special is going on.
